There's a very tenuous link at best between Cloverfield and 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016). There's no rampaging Godzilla but an alien invasion right out of Spielberg's War of the World's reimagining or Starship Troopers. A handy dandy champagne is in her car which, like the shower curtain hasmat suit and ventilation duct, affords Winstead the luxury of defying her potential demise as the vehicle is lifted off the ground with her in it. It is that "are you kidding me?" moment in the film which sees the ramblings of a certifiable Goodman actually prove right!
