Just finished The Witch / The VVitch (2015), and must say I was quite impressed. It was a very striking film, adopting the Kubrick Barry Lyndon candlelighting to optimum effect. The colonial New England, 17th century period of a devout Puritan family dropping roots at the worst possible country locale eventually taken apart by Satanic coven really unveils a total dissolution as religious devotion is rent in two by mistrust, hypocrisy, lies, and seething vitriol bubbling / stewing to an eventual boil. I'll sleep on this one with more to say later.
