5/25/15 episode

I was not a fan of Lucha Underground taking the Trios titles from Rey Mysterio Jr, Dragon Azteca, and Prince Puma. Of the titles on the show, I think the Trios championship is good for babyfaces to hold. The Trios tag straps allows for a constant blitzkrieg of razzle-dazzle and pizzazz. Well, razzle-dazzle and pizzazz are every LU match, but more so when you have three men against three men as athletes fly and perform high risk move sets, putting together exhilarating combinations. Like examples below.

Rey is at that stage in his career where being in a tag team is the most beneficial to his overall health long term in LU. He shouldn't have to go a whole match anymore. Azteca and Puma are more than capable of doing the heavy lifting allowing him to bring the crowd alive with sudden familiar moves that wouldn't stress his knees. In his team's loss of the Trios titles to Johnny Mundo, 'Darewolf' PJ Black, and Jack Evans, Mysterio is able to curl his body slitheringly, like this snake , all around Mundo before leg-scissoring him emphasizing no serious loss in agility and athleticism.

The match below tells how freakish Evans is in terms of selling and withstanding impending offense. Legs that kick and bend and a body that flexibly contorts in various ways to make his opponents look like a million bucks, Evans is ideal for faces to flex their athletic styles against. His bravado, trash talk, and snake-in-the-grass tactics make him a fun heel to see humbled, as the heroes dole out punishment to him.

PJ Black was primarily a member of WWE's job express. He never had a chance to build a character there, basically a colorless face with impressive ability to use the ropes, ring corner turnbuckles, and ring aprons in a variety of imaginative ways. He's ideal for LU, as his own move set, which includes the flips, arm drags, suplexes, hurricanrana, and DDTs that are associated significantly in wrestling as a whole today, fits the promotion. His association with Evans, at first reluctantly, saw him gradually emerging as a backup heel trying to make their team work. Evans' influence had brought Black to the darkside. Opportunistic Mundo, with ever loyal Taya at his right hand, just wanted a belt around his waste. Desperate after unsuccessfully competing for the Gift of the Gods belt, which would assure the winner a Heavyweight Championship shot, Mundo needed gold. It was ego and validation that Mundo wasn't "Johnny Zero". So kicks to the crotch of all three of their competitors when the ref was down and out showed how low they would stoop to snatch away the titles.

Puma and Azteca were highly valuable as trio pieces with Rey. Right now they have nothing to do, as Puma was previous season's Heavyweight champion and Azteca is protƩgƩ to Rey's tutelage. A decent season long reign as champs for all three would have kept them busy and relevant in a crowded promotion. Mundo, though, is due a belt and LU is high on Evans so the changing of possession for the Trio seems to be an option creative were interested in.
