1974 - Favorite Films
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre |
This is a year that is about as tough as 1931. Two of the greatest horror films ever made in 1974 and I had to decide between them which I would put as #1. If I'm honest, I can watch Black Christmas over and over while I can only watch The Texas Chainsaw Massacre every five or so years. I think that is a testament to Hooper's power as a filmmaker who gets under my skin and leaves me so disturbed I can't just watch it over and over comfortably...that's not to say Black Christmas doesn't have power and the ability to disturb. Hooper's film is undeniably a benchmark of the entire decade while Black Christmas is essential Christmas season viewing. So both are such icons of not only the 70s but the entire horror genre. Phase IV is a film I certainly will consider high up my science fiction favorites list...it will be a big sleeper pick on that list.
