Scream the Series - The Second Season: Village of the Damned

 

The soap opera really continues to eek out of every pore of the second season of Scream. Eli has a restraining order against him by a girl in Atlanta, told to Emma by Sheriff Acosta when she comes forth to tell the sheriff about her and Eli hanging out at the burned-down house (which had the hotel clerk and Seth Branson's bodies). This might be a favorite episode for fans of carnivals as a majority of "Village of the Damned" takes place at Lakewood Fairgrounds and their annual Lady of the Lake pageant. While Emma encounters Ghostface in a Funhouse (the best sequence in the episode, of course), revealed to be Kieran with tape over his mouth and around his hand (knife inside the taped fist) after the sheriff and his cops draw guns on them (Emma pulls the gun from a downed deputy's holster in the funhouse). Besides that bit of drama, there is Kieran punching Eli in the face multiple times after Eli tells Emma about Kieran's troubles with his parents' death (Eli wants Emma to know that Kieran isn't without his faults) drawing the crowd's attention. There is Brooke finishing off a flask of liquor provided by Zoe to settle their nerves (Zoe gives her speech like a boss while Brooke can barely walk without tripping) and taking the township in attendance to task for holding a pageant after the death of Jake (and how Lakewood should be renamed "Murderville"), and Stavo invited to her bedroom to sleep next to her (as comfort, not for sex). Sheriff Acosta is worried about his son (especially after locating a tape made by Ms. Lang and a drawing of Seth Branson after Maggie identifies him as one of the burnt bodies), but can't find the mask as Stavo doesn't appreciate the distrust...something happened in Phoenix that made them retreat to Lakewood involving Stavo. Emma tries to avoid Eli and keep Kieran from pummeling his cousin into submission. Eli just wants Emma to realize Kieran has issues while his own are enough to concern her. Then there is Ghostface's continued torment of Audrey, and how she knows that if she doesn't tell Emma about her involvement with Piper then he'll hold power over her forever. Emma is sent a recording of Audrey telling Noah about Piper...clearly Zoe sent that to Emma. So Zoe and Noah share kissy-kissy in a photobooth and were about to make-out in his room when Audrey continues calling...perhaps instigating Zoe to get even. Lots and lots of soap opera. My daughter loves the show. I love my daughter. 2/5
