iZombie - 50 Shades of Grey Matter
A librarian not feeling particularly well collapses in the
library after informing her fellow librarian about a student trying to push
book shelves on top of her. Hemlock poisoning Ravi tells Clive as the
investigation commences. Ravi was pleased with himself, waiting for Clive’s
approval (as Liv tells him, an “Attaboy”) after the discovery of the hemlock in
her system. The creep in the library trying to kill the older librarian was not
allowed to use the computer because of his obsession with “snuff films”.
Muriel is the older librarian, Grace the poisoned murder
victim. Grace’s husband, Andy, was a firefighter confined to a wheelchair after a collapsed beam rendered
him a paraplegic. His help is a muscled nurse.
The obvious comedy (besides a fun pun where Liv mentions she
always felt a connection to Kristen Bell) is Grace’s brain and how after
feeding on it leaves Liv very horny and often coming on to guys or imaging
foreplay and sex with them! Rubbing Clive’s back while listening to Grace’s
sultry audio novel, slapping Ravi on the ass and asking a return for her “naughty
morgue assistant behavior” (!!!)
Go forth. Direct your lust elsewhere.
When Drake, Mr. Boss’ “muscle” (and under Blaine’s thumb to
hurt Boss’ business while snitching to Blaine) arrives at the morgue, the Grace
brain has Liv fighting serious sexual urges!
If McIver ever was as sexy as she is in this episode, I don’t
recall it. This brain allows her to go full nympho! The way she can’t help but
want to fuck Drake’s brains out, eyeing him lasciviously, as he simply asks for
help in getting brains so he isn’t such a stooge for Blaine—it could be the eye
shadow, her pale skin, and bright blues, with her shirt’s dark shade of red
matching her understated makeup—biting her lower lip, closing in tight, not
exactly subdued in her attractive interest. She later starts to wear her shirts
somewhat unbuttoned so the bosom could be more revealing, with her lower skirt
tighter on her hips to submit her contours and features for public viewing.
I just wanna say I can’t help but enjoy the cute sex jokes shared
between Bozzio and Clive. His lap in response to taking her last bit of drink
as he chokes on the sip is amusing. Blaine is the topic of their conversation.
How does Blaine worm his way out of an arrest? He always manages to. I love the
end of the series where he gets a final resting place where his life of
criminality and death comes to a halt.
Turns out the sexy flight attendant, “Ally”, is the
inspiration for Grace’s novel. Her exploits were the gold that gave Grace the
details, barely finessing the character’s differences from the source. Meanwhile Clive and Liv
discover that Muriel had written her own novel, a murder mystery where the
weapon of use was hemlock, the death through poisoning.
It is really cringy seeing Peyton falling for Blaine as he
helps her put together a case against Mr. Boss. He pretends to be a U-slinging
reformer. She has been “without” since Ravi, even admitting to Liv she was
purchasing Grace’s audio book because of her absence of sex. When she arrives “on
her white horse” to rescue Blaine from certain serious jail time (voided by his
cooperation in helping her go after Mr. Boss) after Clive and Bozzio are sure
he could be the Chaos Killer (Major Lilywhite, who, in this episode, must rid a
bugged collar from a dog of a rich tech guy he killed) and involved with the
Meat Cute massacre (Suzuki writing Blaine’s name in blood, with Blaine’s
father, Angus, mentioned among the Chao Killer’s victims), nabbing him for an
old charge from the past drug dealing, it does look like her helping him could
be a very bad mistake. Later, when visiting Liv, she gets the whole back story:
she slept with pure evil. His killing teenagers and selling their brains to
zombies for food, nearly killing Major, turning Liv into a zombie, almost
killing Liv’s brother, a long body count Peyton couldn’t have anticipated. He
is her case against Mr. Boss. Again, she slept with this dirtbag.
Minor, the dog that was staying at Major and Ravi’s shared
home, had become a member of the family. So letting Minor go in order to not be
implicated for its owner’s death was a decision that just emotionally
devastates Major. And Ravi’s expression of loss when told that Minor was picked
up by its “true owners” says a lot about how a dog can be such a source of
great affection and love.
Peyton admits to Liv she slept with Blaine, while Liv gets
that look of concern (that has become an iconic McIver expression I’ve grown quite
accustomed to time and again because with every smile and bright spot that
comes many more moments of great indecision and troubled water brings that
worried face) when she walks to her bedroom as Drake lies in her bed. That you
think you know the person you sleep with, wondered by a disheartened and weary
Peyton, does resonate with Liv. Clive and Bozzio having to release Blaine and
Clive telling Peyton whatever he does next is on her definitely is the moment
of the episode that sits with me the most because fans of iZombie know all too
well that he’s far from done. 3/5
