Big Little Lies - The Bad Mother ***

The remaining episode is Renata just continuing to be pelted by her husband’s transgressions. He even is called out by the nanny during an auction and bankruptcy hearing for services beyond severance needing payment! Renata just promising the nanny that as soon as they could recover she would get rehired and then to hear about the sexual arrangements with her husband….and again another classic Renata freak out where she cusses her husband into oblivion. Losing everything and then the business with the lie regarding Perry; Renata sure is taking it on the chin, too! Not to mention, Ed having a conversation with the wife cheated on with Madeline, offering him quite a friends-with-benefits agreement…I cracked up at how she speaks quite candidly and nonchalantly about the plentiful sex they would be having as Ed is near blush. Ed and Madeline continue to try and work it out. I have been frustrated a bit with Ed despite liking him in the first season because I felt he should either quit her or try and cut the shit. Punishing her in practically every episode by looking at her disapprovingly and with abject judgment gets a bit old. How many times does she apologize? She does so over and over and continues to ask to work it out if they could. Eventually in this episode, Ed and the girls arrive home to find Maddy in her wedding dress dancing to a song Ed picked out…she loves him and he clearly loves her. A mistake was made and perhaps this is finally the moment they decide to work on the marriage for real. But the lie that she carries leaves her having to conceal a secret from Ed and when he asks her she can’t respond as she might like, in turn, “leaving the windows foggy after some clarity in the marriage”.
