Todd & the Book of Pure Evil - How to Make a Homunculus

Considering Hannah is my personal favorite character, an early episode dedicated to her specifically pleased me especially. At this point in the series, the second episode, Hannah was rather attracted to Todd, all googly-eyed and smitten when he's around. Todd, though, has only eyes for Jenny who couldn't care less. Of course, Jenny tells herself that for the longest until the final episode. Curtis is just a stoner hanger-on of buddy Todd at the onset. His eventual teenage romance with Hannah gives him a bit more purpose, besides just smoking pot and eating corn chips. Treated in this episode as a lonely heart, ignored science nerd, Hannah is told by her dick of a teacher that aspirations to be in the same league with her parents are futile. This science teacher is the kind of prick who rewards the hot cheerleaders good grades because they're willing to offer him something-something in return. When a science project is assigned to teams, Hannah is paired with Todd. The Homunculus stems from the Book of Pure Evil, found in a trash bin by Hannah after another project turned out a bust. Hannah, in her desperation, calls on the Book to provide her a special science creation...and it is this little monster favoring Todd that operates off of Hannah's deepest, darkest desires. Like killing her heartless science teacher, and harming Todd's crush (Jenny, for whom it awakens in bed); the Homunculus' behavior seems driven by Hannah subconscious. How Hannah is so pushed aside by Jenny is so odd because the foursome become quite close over the interim. Hannah so crushing on Todd and his attention barely at all recognizing it (or her) is awkward due to how the show would iron out by the end. Melanie Fleischman is certainly not easy to ignore. It is the character and not the actress behind it. She's a stunner but forgoes that for the character so that Jenny gets the lust-assured babe. Still Melanie just can't hide her beauty no matter how her nerdy persona is supposed to...let's face it, nerd is in now, and I'm happy that stereotype is gradually becoming a thing of the past. Jenny is to be bait for the silly looking Homunculus which looks like a miniature monkey version of Todd and Curtis ultimately crushes it into green goo! Hannah is fortunate to be a principle character... supporting characters afterward that encounter wouldn't be so lucky.
