Teen Wolf - Lunatic
Scott invests his heart in getting Allison back but he’s
consumed by darkness. She is as bothered by Scott’s behavior the night the
Alpha was loose in their school. To Jackson—who despises Scott—Allison is
someone he obviously prefers to Lydia (they have no chemistry and spend almost
all their time looking at each other with vitriol) and he considers what Scott
did as betrayal. Allison doesn’t feel she can trust him. Lydia is playing both
sides, seemingly vindictive and manipulative, telling Allison that Scott left
them in the room to die while telling Scott that Allison didn’t appreciate his
willingness to leave them to serve as a distraction to protect them. Lydia’s
motivations perhaps lean towards being the It girl with the It guy. Jackson’s
It status is somewhat slipping which irritates him to no end; this is
especially true when Scott is named co-leader of the Lacrosse team. Stiles is
psyched just making the “first line”, feeling as if his time has finally
arrived. When Stiles requests Scott ask Lydia if she likes him, this goes in a
direction not expected: Lydia opts to make out with Scott before Scott could
ask her about Stiles. Stiles is that sympathetic figure in that he’s carrying a
torch for a girl who is more concerned with school status than a guy with
particular character. Scott’s stock is rising, even as his humanity and “goodness”
is being stripped away the longer the Alpha maintains its presence in town.
Jackson and Lydia both seem to be splitting apart, timely if just because
Allison no longer feels Scott could be “the one”. Maybe it is for the best
considering Scott is a werewolf and her father and aunt are werewolf hunters.
As Stiles tells Scott, this was bound to be a problem. When Jackson noticed
Lydia’s lipstick a bit “off”, Stiles just puts together her making out with his
best friend. This initiates Stiles’ decision to handcuff Scott to his radiator,
but I figure anyone who believes this will hold him at bay would be pretty naïve.
The full moon, so big and bright in the sky, emanates its glow right into Scott’s
room, right into Scott’s face, and the werewolf can no longer be kept silent.
Stiles fears for his pops so that is what preys on his mind as Scott marches
towards Allison and Jackson, in a vehicle talking about the creature at their
school, not convinced Derek was the perpetrator. Before Scott can tear into
Jackson (imagining him making out with Allison), Derek returns to interfere.
What Scott doesn’t realize is that he left a fingernail in Jackson’s door…a
fingernail he believes fits a Lacrosse glove Scott left on the field during an “episode”.
That closed the episode as viewers were left to wonder if Jackson would start a
quest to link Scott to animal attacks, benefiting him in that if his rival is
out of the way he can return to being the head honcho around the school. And,
too, Allison would realize that Scott isn’t what she thought he was. If Jackson
could prove to everyone that Scott is a fraud, a threat, needing to be taken
away, he has nobody to stand in his way. Perhaps he could have Allison. Perhaps
he could once again lead his Lacrosse team to victory as their heroic athlete.
If Scott is no longer around, Jackson will have it all. The world seems to be
Jackson’s for the taking…
Derek has heard that if someone is bitten by a werewolf if
he/she kills the one responsible perhaps the curse will be lifted. Much like
Jackson’s tying the nail to the glove, a new idea is introduced in order for us
to contemplate the possibility that Scott could be rescued from his predicament…or
downfall. Stiles, meanwhile, endures the disappointment of Lydia’s making out
with Scott and checks on his sheriff dad. Losing his mom was tough enough (he
tells Scott that a panic attack was common when he first lost her, using the
asthma inhaler as a device to cure Scott of his own panic attack), so Stiles
keeps tabs on his dad. Scott sees a side of his friend that is quite uncommon.
Scott has this pervasive darkness that had not been seen since the show’s
beginning. The loss of Allison (and the prospects of not getting her back)
coupled with the Alpha’s luring control gradually taking hold of him, Scott is
not in a good place. When Lydia further nudges him over the edge, we see Scott’s
countenance darker and his eyes piercing. The Scott we have known is slipping
away, with Derek returning in the nick of time to halt him from perhaps
attacking Jackson and revealing himself to Allison.
The show is also building towards Chris and Kate finding out
more regarding werewolves in town. A bedroom comment from Allison about how
Derek and Scott have been seen together by her plants a seed that is sure to
root and grow. Kate is immediately inquisitive, and her influence on Chris to
become more of the hunter she wants him to be (less cautious, more bolder and
brazen) is setting the groundwork that plays on the notion of them learning of
Scott’s secret. In any show that wants to keep baiting the viewer to return,
implementing these ploys just makes sense. Why wouldn’t those in the writer’s
room not do such things?
The sight of the Alpha overlooking its domain as all the
players reside in town is a catchy preview to later events. Derek seizing upon
the hope in Scott to help him find the Alpha and kill him so he can perhaps be
spared the longevity of the curse would seem to be an ideal opportunistic play.
Is this truth or fiction? That is also quite a seed to plant in the minds of
viewers…
