Star Trek: Voyager - State of Flux

"You were working for her, Seska was working for them, was anyone working for me?"

I finally had a chance to get to the episode where Martha Hackett's Maquis spy for Cardassia, Seska, betrayed Chakotay and, subsequently, Janeway and the Voyager. Slick, manipulative, charming, and clever, Seska was able to fool Chakotay while providing the Kazon-Nistrim--a certain sect of the Kazon species, warring with other Kazon sects--with "minor" Federation technology. It stems from an accident on board a Kazon ship, involving a food replicator! That revelation being Seska's undoing and giving away the Kazon's having been given it by a spy for them (after being a spy for Cardassia, pretending to be Bajoran so Chakotay would allow her to serve with him in the Maquis) had such remarkably amusing irony to it! That the Kazon are aware of the "unique qualities" of the Federation technology, they needed an officer of some considerable knowledge assisting them. Seska gave the Voyager a worthy, quality adversary helping those with multiple ships threaten the safety of the Federation crew. Seska used her skills to gain Chakotay's trust, but I think it is reasonable to assume she found herself in love with him. Once the Maquis integrated into the Voyager crew, Seska sought after opportunities to endure in the Delta Quadrant, considering the sense of danger, not aligning with a Kazon sect seemed ill advised. Transporting through her own voice-activated code to the Maje Cullah's ship, of the Nistrim, Seska chose to fully side away from the Federation with a particular sect certain to pose a threat in the future. Joe Clark's Joseph Carey, the Starfleet officer who lost the Engineering chief position to Torres, is utilized well as the potential spy for the Kazon, and the use of a cloaking device recognized by Tuvok while food was being scouted on a visiting planet established how operating in the Delta Quadrant always required exercising caution. Especially noteworthy is the revelation of a romantic development between Chakotay and Seska, further complicating matters. Chakotay reflecting on such naivete, shown for his vulnerability in trusting others, he seeks advice from Tuvok, who also tricked him as a spy for the Federation, wondering why he could be so gullible. Being told that Tuvok was also fooled helped Chakotay at least realize he wasn't the only one duped. Favorite personal scene: Janeway not taking to threats by Cullah.

You know, I'm really easy to get along with most of the time, but I don't like bullies and I don't like threats, and I don't like you, Culluh. You can try and stop us from getting to the truth but I promise you that if you do I will respond with all the 'unique technologies' at my command.
