Santa Clarita Diet - We Can't Kill People!

Sheila is so hungry, but roosters (the same couple has returned to the same house listing four times so Joel encouraged Sheila to shut the rooster up so it couldn't be loud) or uncooked meat (or dead body bought from a morgue assistant!) just aren't the same as Gary's fresh fixings! Visiting a viral doc (Patton Oswald guest stars) who summons a psychiatrist when Joel asks about particulars regarding his wife's condition and showing him an organ she puked, nothing is verified, no answers available. Eventually Joel relents, complete with his customary big, friendly smile and position attitude, saying they'd kill people, while the entire episode he was deadset against it. Joel's love for his wife supercedes the consciously terrifying, morally troubling duties at procuring fresh human victims for Sheila to devour! Their daughter ditches school and follows Eric to a comic book store where she throat tackles an obnoxious counter register clerk always insisting customers spend only thirty seconds reading each comic or else they must buy it. This family's life is definitely undergoing unexpected change! The more memorable scene is the opening burial of the remaining body parts and blood soup of Gary, spilled out of a container (missing its top, a bone of contention for them) accidentally with Abby and Eric arriving to help them finish...it's again visceral, darkly comic, and absurdly fitting for a zom-com. Eric's stepdad, Dan, is a real piece of work. He just goes over to the Hammonds' yard to investigate why they were out there spraying chemicals, uninvited and intruding on another's another's property, always a cop seemingly beyond the law. He's so going to be din-din for Sheila! Barrymore's vibrant, all-in performance and convincing charm winning over Joel despite what they will have to do in order for her appetite to remain satiated is part of comedy. Olyphant's inability to keep her at bay and avoiding the inevitable bloodshed, a fixed smile and agreeable attitude, is funny because his Joel is just dumped into this inexplicable situation few would know how to orchestrate or handle. ***/****
