AHS - 1984: Rest in Pieces/Final Girl **
Another nice surprise is the development of Trevor and
Montana’s rekindling their romance. Trevor nearly dies when Margaret shoots him
repeatedly—once in the crotch, even!—but Brooke happens to arrive in the nick
of time to help Trevor over the threshold so he can be with Montana, screaming
for him to pull himself to her. The unresolved issue of Montana’s hatred for
Brooke because of her brother’s death seems to be of less importance when
Brooke gives her Trevor. Brooke did kill her in self defense, and it is this
one death that led to her being blamed for all the other murders, sending her
to death row. So it does seem both have suffered aplenty. Montana’s guilt and
shame for being a catalyst in Richard’s eventual murder spree outside Camp
Redwood does lead to her trying to dump Trevor, who is willing to forgive all
that. It all worked out in the end as Montana and Trevor greet Bobby, filling
him in to what happened at Camp Redwood in the 80s, not really knowing where Benji
went to. And Montana and Trevor are among the leadership who form packs that
make sure RR and Margaret are dealt with.
The opening of “Final Girl” is quite a visual dandy—probably
a treat for fans of Abandoned Porn—as Bobby arrives at Camp Redwood and travels
into the rundowns of the festival set up by Margaret that never sees success.
What makes it quite a wow to me is that it is an aftermath thirty years later,
setting up what actually does happen in 1989. Bobby with his iPhone encountering
Montana, her reaction to the device, and later learning from him that aerobics
in current time was considered an 80s
fad remembered with amusement is a nice conversion of two eras. It is like
Bobby finds himself in a timewarp, bringing with him a device of the future too
surreal to comprehend for Montana.
