Santa Clarita Diet - The Farting Sex Tourist
Sheila has a new mantra of just following your dreams and
instincts, as her id is just encouraging her to act as impulsively as possible,
and her advice to others creates a lot of problems such as Rick buying a Range
Rover while his wife, Alondra (Joy Osmanski), decides to follow Jon Legend on
tour for a few weeks, as well as, Eric’s mom, Lisa, banging an oncologist she
met later after a science project contest. The principal (Thomas Lennon) really
has an antagonistic relationship with Sheila because he threatens to suspend
her daughter, Abby while gushingly propping up Eric as a wunderkind she’s badly
influencing. While Abby is considered an average student by Lennon’s Principal
Novak, Sheila takes offense to his attitude about her, never giving any
indication that he believes she’ll ever be anything significant like Eric. She
wants to eat him, of course, while Joel, once again, must stay her primal
nature which has no restraints unless he convinces her to combat that id and
that impulsiveness.
My favorite scene, besides a nice father/daughter motorcycle
ride to outside Santa Clarita near a bench under a lanai—okay, I’m a father
with a sixteen-year old and we’re close so this is obvious a gimme—where they
talk about Sheila, needing to get out a primal scream of What the Fuck!, has
Sheila talking to Eric about how to control herself because the id is causing
fractures in her family dynamic. Eric won’t relent in his belief that Sheila
has no control despite how badly she appeals to him for answer he just doesn’t
have. It is one of those dialogue share, rat-a-tat-tat, back-and-forth
discussions that never falters even as Eric would love to give Sheila good
news, but there just isn’t any available. Although it is clearly freeing to
just live a life free of shackles, doing and saying what you want without a
filter, and Sheila looks rejuvenated and alive, but this “lifestyle change”
could cost her friendships, a marriage, and close daughter relationship. So
Sheila’s got her work cut out for her.
Hate that title although it refers comically to the principal when Sheila and Lisa poke fun at him during the science fair.
