Game of Thrones - The Rains of Castamere
In other subplots of The Rains of Castamere, Daenerys is
assured by her new addition to the team, Daario, that they can eliminate those
that are leaders within Yukai and take (sack) the city. When we see Daario,
Jorah, and Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson) enter the city after Daario takes out the
first guards, other officers surround them, and more come pouring out of the
streets and walls. It looks quite hopeless. Wanting to go with them, Barristan
Selmy is told by Jorah to stay behind and guard the Queen. Again, further
reiterated, the budding sexual tension between Daenerys and Daario is obvious,
even to Jorah, clearly concerned he might not should be trusted. Grey Worm,
though, tells Daenerys he does trust Daario. Certainly, as all three return
returning, bloody and exhausted but victorious, as Daario kneels with the city’s
flag on bended knee, has earned him brownie points. Jon Snow’s loyalty to the
wildings has been questioned by Orell (Mackenzie Crook), the warg, every since
before they climbed and crossed over The Wall, and that distrust was proven to
Giantsbane when Jon fails to behead a horse farmer for the Night’s Watch. Y’gritte
is caught in a quandary as Giantsbane attempts to convince her that Jon, this
man she loves, is a Crow, not loyal to the wilding cause. As Jon puts a sword
through Orell, he must ward off a raven that Orell calls upon to attack him.
Giantsbane and Y’gritte watch as Jon hops a horse and gallops away. Jon is not
who Y’gritte hoped he might be and Giantsbane makes sure she realizes that. And
the irony that at this very spot near a Windmill whose tower holds Bran, Osha,
Rickon, and Hodor…Jon never had a clue, and neither did his “brothers”.
The abilities of Bran continue to be elaborated as his eyes
go white and somehow he “reaches” into the mind of Hodor and “quiets” him as he
loses control for some reason. Hodor, for the most part, has been a very
stable, calm, obedient service to Bran, but his outburst, repeating his name
over and over without a real explanation as to why he is in such hysterics is
out of character. Jojen is stunned that Bran could go into a human’s mind. Osha
has never seen a warg do this beyond the Wall. Bran is quite special. And Bran
wants Osha to take Rickon away, that an heir of Ned Stark must be kept alive,
wanting him taking to Stark loyalists for safety precautions. Bran will
continue with Hodor, Jojen, and Jojen’s sister, archer Meera. And so the Starks
will all be split apart…no other family goes through such as the Starks. It is
quite an emotional wallop, all of the lead Starks dying off while the
unexpected offspring that normally wouldn’t be considered for surviving very
long do. I can’t help but think that not too long ago, Arya was serving Tywin
wine. And now her mother and brother are dead, as Tywin runs operations all
over and at King’s Landing. Samwell and Gilly head for the Wall as well, with
Samwell quite knowledgeable about places they could hide that aren’t currently occupied
or have been for some time. He reads old books, Samwell says, and perhaps doing
so will continue to help him along the way. He might not have had a decent
father but maybe he doesn’t have to follow in his footsteps. And he sure doesn’t
want Gilly naming the baby after his dad…
I didn't add this to my Red Wedding post, but never has the need to urinate helped someone escape certain death like it does for Blackfish, Cat's uncle! And poor Edmure, carried off with Walder's daughter to bed, is in quite a pickle himself!
