Game of Thrones - The Mother of Dragons Offers Freedom

I realize that Game of Thrones has seemingly hijacked the Blog from the Darkside, but promising friends at work that I would invest in the world of Westeros as the final season draws near sort of gave birth to all of this review coverage. I will admit that once this is over I’ll definitely take a hiatus and give myself a mental break.

So I reached the conclusion of Breaker of Chains & Oathkeeper and a prevailing thought remained with me as I exercised a bit to jar loose some remaining lag from yesterday after accumulating a number of posts for the series I have yet to drop on the blog due to reluctance to forgo so much content at one time. It really has reached overload but there have been streams opened that made writing easy. It is all so overlong, though. But I digress, by the end of Oathkeeper, Daenerys and her company have sent barrels breaking across the walls of Meereen catapulted with broken neck bindings and chains to signify to the slaves of the city that freedom could be theirs if they just overthrow their masters. After leaving behind Astapour and Yukai, an army of people once enslaved now following the Khaleesi willingly and voluntarily, Daenerys, Jorah, Barriston, Grey Worm, and Daario consult with each other on the next steps towards Meereen following a similar plan as the previous cities. Doing so won’t be easy, necessarily, but Daenerys has made sure to remember each and every slave crucified as they made their way to Meereen. Their deaths served as inspiration for her empowered goal of freeing the slaves of Meereen. The thought that kept prevailing is that here we are in the middle of the fourth season and it didn’t feel Daenerys was any closer to Westeros than when we first met her in the first season as her brother prepared to surrender her to whomever in order to win back the Iron Throne. Her journey has been busy and kept her far away from where she desires to be. It does seem like she continues to deal with distractions as building an army and securing what is needed to take her supposed rightful place in King’s Landing as Queen hasn’t been easy…it indeed has been quite fortuitous. Patience is always key with this series. Grey Worm is willing to infiltrate Meereen for Daenerys in order to provide (with help from Unsullieds following him) weapons to the slaves debating whether or not a revolt would do them any good. Daario vanquishes the city’s greatest warrior with relative ease as Daenerys proves that she is a formidable foe to the masters of the city of Meereen. Barristan and Jorah do offer to fight against the warrior but Daenerys reminds them of how they each support her in ways that can’t be lost so Daario volunteers. And Grey Worm (learning English from Missandei) is leader of the Unsullied army so fighting the warrior wasn’t an option Daenerys could consider. With her dragons acting up and often not listening to their mother as they did when babies, Daenerys might have some trouble with their growing pains. So while Westeros is still the endgame, Daenerys has other duties and obstacles requiring her attention at the moment.
