Battlestar Galactica - Collaborators
After Exodus II, this next episode took a very dark turn. A judge, jury, execution squad of six are given carte blanche to work as The Circle, investigating those humans on New Caprica who, through evidence gathered and studied, decide together through unanimous vote if a subject should die for working for or with the Cylons which resulted in human deaths.
Zarek was President due to Baltar's absence, wanting to resign and yield the position to Roslin. She would offer the Vice Presidency to him. He later admits to granting permission to The Circle, commissioned by him to eliminate those human reminders of loss thanks to the Cylons and NCP (humans agreeing to work as police for Cylon occupied New Caprica), much to Roslin and Adama's horror. Trials ongoing and just a threat to any peaceful coexistence would undermine the ability to work and live together. So a pardon and her own formation of a different kind of commission would perhaps smooth things somewhat even as the likes of Saul, Kara, and Connor (who lost his son thanks to a disaster which led to the NCP killing humans accidentally) might consider the decision unpopular.
Jammer, who helped Cally escape execution, was highlighted as worthy of death and shot out into space, despite pleas for his life. Seeing Tyrol, Tigh, Anders, and others--eventually Starbuck even joins when Anders can't take the murdering anymore--agree to execute somebody through vote is shocking. Tigh continues to slip into darkness, confronting Gaeta on working for Baltar and the Cylons, even getting ornery with Adama, who tells him to sleep it off. Losing his eye and wife, spending so long in a cell and the occupation, have left him scarred and wounded. Starbucks' experience with Leoben also has embittered and demoralized her, held against her will, manipulated, and forced to kiss and tell him she loved him, another woman's daughter used to accomplish that. She's got an ax to grind, and poor Anders just can't get through to her. She even tells him she wants to be violent towards him. The relationship can't survive.
Gaeta is lucky in that Tyrol recognized his claims about helping the Resistance, while Starbuck and Tigh sure feel ready to shoot him out an airlock, too. With Baltar awaiting whether or not the Cylons would execute him or spare him, Gaeta similarly faced his own tribunal. Both somehow make it out alive.
Apollo communicated to his dad that missing persons reports indicated a pattern. This eventually leads to Zarek's revelation and Roslin needing to address it.
2.5/5
