Twilight Zone / Hulu - The Arrival
Watching TZ on Hulu this afternoon after finishing Jaws (1975) |
After concluding Jaws (1975), because my daughter wanted to watch it on 4th of July weekend, I returned to Twilight Zone. I don't have much to add to what's been said before, but I did have one thought come across my mind as "The Arrival" was nearing it's end: Mr. Sheckley seemed to be a victim of his own narcissism.
Bengsten and Malloy watch Sheckley crumble |
Sheckley as the airline government Sherlock Holmes not able to "lick" this one missing flight out of Buffalo, the grand master of solving jigsaw puzzles has been haunted for nearly 20 years. The Flying Dutchman of his psyche. He was so good at his job, but when he can't keep that record clean of any mysteries, Sheckley's ego couldn't handle it. And rhe results are Sheckley coming apart at the seams, a broken man in a hanger on his knees begging for that lost flight to give him the results that remained elusive.
