iZombie - Looking for Mr. Goodbrain Part 1
Well after watching this episode of "iZombie" in Season 3 I will have one final episode and conclude the series for the blog. Much like "Lost" and "Game of Thrones", I feel a little sad that I will be finishing up the series but I'm also happy I had the chance to cover it all the way through to the end. This episode has a tragic wallop at the end. Harley Johns, having been bitten and "inflicted" with the zombie virus, is freed by allies of his zombie truther secret club, can't control the hunger and attacks them. So disgusted and tormented with this fate, he intrudes upon a "going away" celebration party for Major--Chase Graves learns that Major is human and "fires" him--setting off explosives belted on himself. Truly horrifying as Major and Justin's friends--including Natalie (Brooke Lyons), the prostitute he gave the zombie virus cure to and eventually fell for and vice versa--at Fillmore-Graves were in the house as Harley blew himself up. Along with Harley going KABOOM!, what happened to Wally and his family might have went away as well.
On the cover of that alt weekly magazine is Liv full maniac zombie mode, so she sees fit to use makeup and a wig to alter her appearance. Ravi telling Rachel (Ella Cannon) about zombies certainly complicated matters, especially considering his former CDC boss (and one-time fling), Katty (Christina Cox) arrives back in town to confront him about "wild conspiracy theories" that got him fired from his former job. Finding Katty dead only adds a fresh development to the overall series arc, considering she was investigating a flu with no cure (only a vaccination). Clive becomes quite paranoid and swept up in "flu fear", queasy and uneasy being in the same interrogation room as folks on a plane ride to Seattle that might have the flu that seems to be spreading throughout the city.
While Peyton and Liv remain 50/50 on the mayor being responsible for Weckler killing the dominatrix and setting up his death (and the security guard who killed Weckler), Peyton is offered chief of staff to work for the mayor. So this might provide an opportunity to work closely with the mayor to further determine if he is guilty or not.
The investigation into Katty's death offers the possibility of Chase (a piece of paper has her name and room number on his room night stand, Liv finds while in bed after a steamy sexual encounter) and even Carey Gold (Anjali Jay), with Fillmore-Graves, as her daughter was on the flight that brought the flu from Paris to Seattle.
The episode really was once again loaded with plot developments. The comedy of the show comes with Liv dealing with the nymphomaniac brain of Katty, Liv seeing visions of her sleeping with Ravi and feeling repulsed by them, and Liv trying to avoid too many comments from folks at a bar in the hotel Katty stayed at. Ravi couldn't resist rubbing it in as Liv can barely look at him due to the concern of more visions. The tragedy of the episode was that Natalie had just returned to Seattle to pack up her things in a move to Italy, reacquainting herself with Major, the two becoming romantic. Natalie came with Major to his party, never realizing that this would be her last moments alive thanks to Harley Johns.
The episode does show news on the flu and the idea that zombies in Seattle has started to take effect on the psychology of the city. Ravi, obviously, wants nothing to do with Rachel, who comes to his lab morgue wanting to ask even more questions after betraying his confidence.
No Blaine in the episode. I assume he'll be more of a prominent figure in the last episode of the third season.
It is bittersweet, but I like closing a book, and "iZombie" has been a blog staple for sure. It wasn't a very popular show. But it was a cult show. I personally thought it was a lot of fun. This episode, for its good use of the brain Liv absorbed in an ice cream sundae and the whopper of a tragic end, was very noteworthy. 4/5
***Chase and Liv sleeping together was just rather icky to me. I guess it was bound to happen. Granted, Liv was on that damned Katty brain that was always wanting to fuck some other guy. And there were several instances where Liv had to fight that brain off in order to avoid feeling as if she would betray her relationship to Justin. The two of them discussing sexual fantasies was rather just nope.***
