Trick of the Light: From the Dark
The Artistry of Connor McMahon's Use of Light and Dark
This is similar to what I typically do for my blog photograph albums and included on my Tumblr page. Below is an assemblage of what I consider to be some of the director's best photographic moments distilled from his film, From the Dark (2014). Notice how the director loves the use of the light and his frequent close-up emphasis on his lead actress. I think the casting director is encouraged to produce the director a certain type of face perfect for various forms of light. The face produces the appropriate reactions when required (fear, anxiety, suffering, anguish, anger, etc) and the light gives her substance. The light enhances her. This film does benefits. from such a rich face, easy to look at so intimately.
