I had mentioned in my review for my IMDb account, regarding From the Dark (2014), that the director establishes place. I also think he very distinctively establishes the compelling visual power of night, not failing to point out the moon in long distance shots.
The dark is of great importance to Conor McMahon, but as you see above, so the is the use of the moon. I know that the use of mise-en-scène gets tossed around when it comes to a certain type of visual presentation associated with directors of caliber, but I think it applies to McMahon's film as well. The moon isn't just an accident in so many different shots, and quite obvious a motif he strives to connect to the vampire predator lurking within the landscape of what rests underneath its gaze.
