Mind the store: Video Violence
I've got nothing for the movie (from 1987), but as a time capsule that takes me back to when I was a kid / teenager, Video Violence brings happy memories. But, the poster of Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning also stood out as did the old way rental stores used to operate. Today's generation aren't aware of this but in the day, video stores would line the shelves behind them with VHS tapes in numbered black boxes. If you were lucky enough to get to the store to nab a certain movie in time, the black box holding the video tape was yours, with the box cover replacing its slot. The remaining rental stores of today typically have a dvd box behind the box cover on the shelf making it more convenient for all involved but primarily you just stream films on your computer or televisions, or await your dvd from the red box or netflix. I'm just glad I was a part of the "prehistoric" days of the video rental.
This caught my eye when I watched Video Violence back in 2008 (reviewing it for my imdb user account); the poster of the fifth Friday the 13th film, and it came back to mind today as I was dwelling on which of the Friday movies I'd watch today. I decided on the fifth one which I consider one of the series' least successful efforts.
Most of these stores are now occupied by clothing stores or gyms. Ahhh, these were the days. I had like five or even six rental stores in the late 80s/early 90s where I lived in my little home town. Now they've been replaced by red kiosks.
