Night of the Living Dead (1968; Joe Bob's Last Drive-In)
| That familiar hit of music, Barbra and Johnny in their car driving at a distance around some curves until that great film title with that iconic font pops up as they approach the cemetery. Johnny is opining the long drive while Barbra tries to get him to chill out. Why does mom send them hundreds of miles to their dad's grave every year? Then the Hinzman zombie with the Frankenstein stiff leg walk can be seen as Johnny mocking tells Barbra, They're coming to get you, Barbra.. |
Watching this on Joe Bob and Darcy's 100th episode on The Last Drive-In with special guest Svengoolie popping in is just special. And Joe Bob brings so much information in such an energetic way. You want everything you can possibly learn about Night of the Living Dead? Well, Joe Bob brings it to us, that's for sure. But Joe Bob and Sven talking for quite some time...this is quite a way to just bring even more attention and eyes to Sven.
I'm sure I'll be on Letterboxd over and over, saying something else that knocked my socks off. This time, when the zombies cut the lights out of the farmhouse and the remaining survivors are trying to fend off the horde as their hands burst through the empty spaces where the plankboards can't hold the doors or windows is just phenomenal. The editing and camera work, just sensational. I think they said Shudder used the Criterion cut and lemme tell you, this version looks the best I have ever seen. And the audio is excellent. I would definitely say this is the definitive version for the film. It has never looked better.
