Def by Temptation (1990)
Fun cast, great lead succubus by Doyd who definitely had the seductive, alluring qualities needed for the role, Hardison nonsurprisingly walking away with the film as the Brooklyn buddy of a North Carolina reverend's (Sam Jackson, all fire and power with a sermon directed to his boy before the demon from hell causes him to crash his car and die) son visiting his apartment, some smoky and jazzy clubs featuring great music of the time, Nunn trying and failing to pick up the ladies at bars, and ferocious attacks to men after or during sex after the succubus selects them as prey visiting and frequenting clubs. Succubus and preacher's son in a spiritual battle where lust of the flesh will need to be conquered in order to survive. Having Ernest Dickerson behind your camera certainly had to help young filmmaker, Bond III. I was a bit burnt out because of the double feature Joe Bob Drive-In format, as JB drinks various liquors and continues his discussion about Walpurgisnacht while Darcy as a fire voluptuous cosplay wicked witch worries about his ongoing consumption.
This definitely felt like it belonged in 1989. Hardison and the TV that eats, as well as, the Spike Lee ties...the film feels very 1989. Lots of stylish setpieces, and the location footage really just adds this punch. I think this would be a dope revisit when I'm not as exhausted.
