It's funny that you mention this. I watched it Tuesday night. Cushing's treatment is mind boggling, Lee is kind of this police head calling shots behind the scenes but he doesn't have much important to do besides willing Price with his eyes to commit suicide in the acid bath, and Price doesn't get to tear into his role until the end. Way too much of the Communist juggernaut with the death shoulder grip and a ridiculously long Friedkin police chase of a superpowerful women-killing psychotic gets the rub by the screenplay. It took such a convoluted path with several alternating subplots, and even Price was confused by the screenplay. I'm mixed about it.
