And so it begins...Rollin's Requiem.
I wrote this piece just last night. I had pondered these thoughts initially when first starting my next Euro-Fantasy/Horror project...Requiem for a Vampire (1971). The idea behind the project series was to not necessarily pick apart the film focused on as much as contemplate the artist and the work as it unfolds. How I feel about the content, the director's little touches, and just what emerges on screen and how I feel about it. It has been a fun approach:
I was always amused at how Rollin seems to apply the “…and after some big climactic event” to the start of his movies. Such an example couldn’t be more exemplified than in Requiem of the Vampire like how we are “joined in progress” during some excitement involving his girls. In Requiem of a Vampire, we see how two young ladies in clownface (and costume) are in a car with some male partner fleeing a couple of guys as the two parties engage in a shootout while driving down some French country road.
