Halloween Diary - Haddonfield Memorial Memories🏥
God, that scene with Laurie speed-walking like a triathlete when Michael is in pursuit when it's convenient, while crawling and hobbling other times, as well as, her inability to talk above a whisper when seeing help though able to lift her voice to the height of a soprano once those who can assist her are just out of sight and hearing....yeah, you could see why Carpenter might have issues with his screenplay. I really think I like Loomis best with Deputy Gary Hunt (Hunter von Leer). Carpenter made sure to get Sheriff Bracket out of the movie quickly. The mob of locals turning on the Myers House really feels like an abridged version of the almost-fully-released Halloween Kills (2021). But Michael on the outskirts of the hospital, seemingly free to kill plenty of folks, settles instead on paramedics and staff, with only Alice in the neighborhood being an unfortunate victim outside of the scope of the film's main setting. The more I watch Halloween II (1981), the more I realize Laurie is really not a big part of it...she's just an objective.
I can see why the film has its critics. It does have problems. But the film looks so attractive, with that damned alluring aesthetic. Cundy's contribution is essential to this film's success. It had to at least look like the first film, even if that mystique is dulled. I can watch it easily, never really tired of it. And the inclusion of the sibling angle does feel more shoehorned with each subsequent viewing. So I get that Carpenter wasn't copacetic with it.
