American Horror Story - Roanoke: Chapter 2**

This episode was quite heavy. I did remember struggling Lee losing her daughter after essentially (by law) taking her daughter from her divorced ex-husband to Shelby and Matt's house in Virginia. I remember at the time feeling, "If ever you gave Mason an incentive to forever shame you into a guilt oblivion, this hasty decision, without even thinking about the ramifications, provides him that justification". So, at the time, I gulped when Lee arrives at the house with her daughter in the car, particularly after the previous visit with talk of some ghost girl mentioning how her entire family would be killed. That was all that was needed to stir Mason up to never allow their daughter back at that house, even threatening to get a judge to forbid even visits to mommy. Other than that unfolding, there are paranormal visitations by two psychopathic nurses who used the Shelby and Matt house in the past as a nursing home, murdering their elderly patients in various ways (re-enacted), including one woman getting a gunshot to the forehead. The nurses color MURDE in blood on the wall. Something happened to them, Matt and Shelby believe, and the episode doesn't quite give us how. The episode shows us a reenactment of Shelby seeing a cult burning alive a victim with a pig's head over an open fire in the woods (Shelby believing this human sacrifice was staged when the police find nothing). Later, after hearing pig noise, Matt and Shelby locate a wooden cross with a pig head at the top on fire during a late night search. On top of all that, Matt and Shelby locate a camera and video recording of Dr. Elias Cunningham (Denis O'Hare), who told them about the nurses haunting their home. He goes on an excursion into the home with the camera and briefly captures a female figure before the recording goes out. At least the episode shows us Matt and Shelby wanting answers as to why they were sold a house of such notoriety and bad history, referred to their auction buy and how the bank can't be held liable....they remove that immediate reaction from us with the question, "Why stay at the house when you know something evil lurks within?" They would have to sale at a much lower price than they paid. After locating Lee's daughter's coat way up a long dead tree, any quick sale would be ideal. 3.5/5
