SYFY TZ Marathon - The Mighty Casey
As far as "The Mighty Casey" goes, I got off work and had a shoulder and back ache I think I received as part of strenuous activity not to mention stress due to my internet being trash thanks to a router malfunctioning. Anyway, I was glad to finally rest for a bit and watch Twilight Zone. I have recorded all the episodes when the marathon officially started at 5AM here in the States where I live. No fanfare or excitement this year as the pandemic has really set its target on my family with my mother and stepfather getting Covid related pneumonia, as well as, my cousin and stepfather's sister. My first episode being "The Mighty Casey" is kind of okay, while it isn't any great shakes, I always enjoy starting the marathon with something that isn't as firmly entrenched in the prime of Twilight Zone's schedule as the usual suspects often are. Granted, I will be be getting to the opening slate of episodes here shortly with "Where is Everybody?" but "The Mighty Casey", notorious for Paul Douglas' death and Warden replacing him as the defeated manager of the woefully inadequate Hoboken Zephyr baseball team, wasn't that difficult to get through. It was more or less played for comedy and Serling tapped into the love of baseball, particularly for that time. I feel when I watch this, "The Mighty Casey" was written by Serling as a way for him to wrap baseball in a sci-fi story about a robot who is an empty canvas until he gets a heart so the desperate Warden can play him on the field, considering Casey helped him get to the playoffs after being so far back in the standings prior to Sofaer's scientist introducing his creation to the frustrated manager and his team boss (Alan Dexter). When you are watching a marathon, these episodes especially come and go and are probably immediately forgotten.
