WWE Diaries - Lesnar/Reigns
After Brock Lesnar defeated Roman Reigns yet again in the cage match at THE GREATEST ROYAL RUMBLE, I consider the latter a dead character. But I’m not upset at the developments since I haven’t particularly cared about the Universal title for some time. What is a relief is how the WWE World Title picture currently stands on Smackdown, so that gives us what the Universal Title picture doesn’t. I’m just not all that enthused or invested in Lesnar any longer, although I recognize his stature as an intimidating force of nature that suplexes you into oblivion, accompanied by his explosive F-5 finisher which puts the final touch on matches for most of his opponents. Problem is: what is next? When there is no real challenge out there for Lesnar left where will the drama come from? Who is on RAW that even remotely stands a chance with Lesnar. He has beaten Samoa Joe, Reigns, Cena, Orton, Braun Strowman, and the like. And who can get a decent match out of Lesnar at this point? There are few that really appear to even be considered worthy opposition for Lesnar…most have been beaten by Reigns, proposed as the real quality opponent for him. I don’t think anyone realistically considers Finn Balor or Rollins as potentially dangerous. Strowman is the most obvious choice, but even he was beaten with a single F-5 in a rather so-so encounter when the two met previously. So Lesnar might as well just carry off the Universal championship back home to Canada, rest on his laurels, and kick his feet up because no one can lace up his boots much less take the title from him. I don’t dislike Reigns, at all, unlike many others. I think he has arrogant, handsome heel written all over him and my own personal wrestling fan preference would be for the trigger to be pulled Monday night on RAW. Reigns needs a makeover BADLY. Strowman is the best choice, considering his reactions, to be Brock’s next money opponent, but the excitement in the Universal championship at this point is rather inconsequential. I’ll continue to enjoy Styles and Nakamura’s gem of a feud just really getting truly started on Smackdown.
