Matthew Fox is Jack (I knew him from Party of Five), a doctor who awakens in the woods close to the
beach. He goes into hero mode almost immediately when he sees bits and pieces
of what was once a plane scattered about as fellow passengers tend to their
shock and lick their wounds. He’s immediately rounding up folks to help him
lend a hand to the wounded. Claire Littleton (Emilie De Ravin) is pregnant, 8
months, and appears, it seems, on the verge of having the baby right there on
the spot. A woman seems to be unconscious as heartthrob Boone (Ian Somerhalder,
The Vampire Diaries) tries to give
her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Boone’s doing it wrong, though, and Jack
takes over. He also notices a victim pinned under plane debris, securing
assistance from able-bodied guys around to help free this hurt individual from
underneath it. This victim has a sharp piece of plane shrapnel imbedded in his
side as he seems out of it. Jack knows that in order for 48 survivors to get
off the island in one piece he’ll need to location the transceiver that will
send out a signal to a rescue mission or aircraft / ship that might be in the
area or vicinity. Jack meets Kate (Evangeline Lilly, who is a stunner), just
walking about in deep anxiety. Kate clearly shows the overwhelming disquiet of
someone truly under duress, but she steels herself thanks to Jack’s resolve and
calming influence. He needs her help. Jack walks away from the beach wreckage
and active passenger fray to sew a gash in his side. He has needles and thread
but can’t reach the wound so he commissions Kate to do the sewing. After
initial reluctance, Kate does so as Jack eases her into it. Eventually the two
decide to go on a search mission to find the front half of the plane and
hopefully the transceiver. Among the party of survivors is hoodied Charlie
(Dominic Monaghan), bass player for a rock band that Kate actually knows and
likes. He helped Sayid (Naveen Andrews) build a fire and spell out FATE on
stickers around his fingers. Charlie is antsy and wants to be about doing
something so he volunteers to go with Jack and Kate to the other half of the
plane. They locate that part of the plane, climb up in it, notice a couple of
bodies in seats dead, and make their way to where the pilots are, finding one
of the pilots alive! The transceiver, though, isn’t operational so it was a bum
trip.
4th of July 2025 Marathoning
McDowell and Comi prepare to leave for Mars. Aliens visiting the UN, dropping off their cook book, providing goodies for humans on Earth, easing them into trusting them, spiriting them away to be food for them on their home planet. To Serve Man is nearly 60 years ago. I've been watching Twilight Zone since I was a teenager in the mid 90s thanks to Sci Fi Channel. Many of my family have passed since (for instance, my mother's siblings are all about gone except one last sister), and it wouldn't be right to avoid a marathon during the 4th if just for nostalgic reasons. Syfy didn't see the value of TZ on Independence Day, except last year, so even though I cannot watch episodes like I do during New Year's Eve and Day, it is nice to try and sneak in a block of episodes whenever possible. I started with Death Ship from the fourth season, continuing with Stopover in a Quiet Town and The Gift . To Serve Man would feel like a later afternoon watch but SYFY showed it at 3:...
