Shudder Brief
I have been popping in and out of Shudder TV's It Came From Shudder, and In Search of Darkness, a nearly 4 ¹⁄₂ mammoth documentary, is a frequent presence. I credit the undertaking. And the sheer gallery of horror icons and recognizable faces, minds, and voices of the genre I love available for the documentary gives In Search of Darkness a certain gravitas. I'm sure I'll have more to say on the blog. I do wish films got more than a few minutes but I realize the 80s was such a massive decade for the horror genre, so a real in depth deep dive just wasn't feasible. But the directors involved alone was a treat, but seeing Barbara Crampton and Caroline Williams discussing horror films beyond their own was a treat. We recently lost Stuart Gordon and Larry Cohen, so their involvement made me particularly appreciative of the documentary. That there is a second In Search of Darkness coming gives me hope that further study of the decade will have even more meat on the bone.
