SYFY Closes Marathon with Season 5 (Updated)
Rod introduces The Fear |
I'll be totally asleep but I might soldier through some of the lesser regarded episodes SYFY (rightfully, for the most part) dumped into the wee hours at the very end of the marathon. Few will probably hang on until then. But with DECADES continuing the marathon I might as well into the weekend. These are Eastern Standard but I hope to comment on them hopefully Saturday afternoon.
On Twitter, you could tell "I Am the Night" and "The Encounter" really made an impact. Viable, on point, prevalent, current even if so long ago, the message from these and overall presentation are powerful. On race, especially, these two episodes have such potency. Now, saying that, "Sounds and Silences" with MacGiver ("Period of Adjustment") and his big mouth and attraction to noise, Morgan Brittany, that insufferable brat and yet another "dastardly ventriloquist dummy" tormenting poor dolt, Cooper in "Caesar and Me", and the Bond villain in "The Jeopardy Room" who decides to let Martin Landau live instead of immediately kill him when he had the chance (opting to play cat and mouse, instead) are episodes that don't necessarily offer the very best TZ fans are accustomed to experiencing when watching the show. Some of the latter episodes have their fans, though. I was surprised to find a Twitter TZ fan claim "Come Wander With Me" was her favorite (a couple years ago)...it was a late viewing for me, as I watched it at 3:30 in the morning, but I have just never warmed to it. Maybe years of watching "Come Wander With Me" is not an episode I watched a hell of a lot. I never watched it in the 90s. In fact, I want to say the first time I watched this episode was when SYFY presented the entire series during a huge marathon about five years ago. I admit that besides the annual marathon I doubt I would pull this out and watch it on the reg. But I could say that for most of the featured episodes below besides "Mr. Garrity and the Graves" which I thoroughly enjoy thanks to the fantastic cast and Dehner's smooth con artist (and flashy wardrobe). I find "Whipples" hard to watch because the subject matter--AI replacing human workers--scares the hell out of me as "progress" essentially means "leave a lot of workers unemployed". But if you are a businessman, this will probably not bother you much at all. Someday I really do plan to give "I Am the Night" and "The Encounter" serious time on the blog. I did mention on Twitter that these two episodes deserve a better time than early in the morning at the end of a marathon when a lot of the viewers have checked out. A few years ago, SYFY did feature these Season 5 episodes in the afternoon on New Year's Day.
