Battlestar Galactica - Water
It was inevitable that there would be an eventful water crisis due to just the sheer number of people, in such a fleet of ships, as they search for an escape from cylon forces and hopefully some refuge of safety. And with the established threat of Boomer, a cylon onboard the BG, such a vital member of the crew, often used to seemingly and unknowingly serve as a danger, Adama and Roslin have their hands full. As Baltar deals with Six's intrusive mental invasion, lending her two cents periodically, giving the brilliant scientist a lot of attention trouble as he tries to multitask between her interruptions and conversations with those needing his advice and opinions on detecting any further cylon spies/saboteurs onboard the BC, his genius is requested in finding any other masquerading cylon. Given an assistant, Baltar eyes BG poker games with Starbuck instead. If anything winning hands against the formidable Starbuck gives him some ease from the typical pangs of guilt subverting his attempts at rest and relaxation. And this episode has Boomer actually responsible for the successful mission of finding a moon with water. Her other cylon model is on Caprica earning the trust of Helo, who is unaware of the Boomer he knows being far away. This model actually kills a duplicate Helfer to further cement her manipulation of Helo, as the two hide in the rain "spying" on the other cylon, nearly kissing!
The saboteur cylon threat plot continues to serve as a lingering danger perfect for keeping us guessing as to whether or not Boomer can countermand the programming inside her. Bombs used to damage the BG, depleting the water supply---Boomer opens the episode soak and wet, confused, going to her lover, Tyrol, when realizing explosives are missing--ruin Commander Adama's confidant belief that water wouldn't be an issues for some time. Roslin boards the BG, getting the respectful red carpet treatment. Apollo assures her that his father isn't such a proponent for pomp and circumstance, as Roslin realizes she'll need his guidance in understanding military strategy and how to better relate to the Commander. That relationship between Adama and Roslin is professional, but there's definitely something else there. But I really enjoy how Roslin relies and depends upon Apollo for guidance.
Apollo having trouble recovering from firing upon the colonial ship in the previous episode emphasizes the weight of tough decisions in order to protect the overall fleet. Recognizing the toll of any loss of life gets applause by me. Pointing that out, like when Tyrol agonized over losing officers in the pilot, gives BG greater merit, not just ignoring any death once the officers are out of the picture.
3.5/5
