The X-Files - Redux

Scully at death's door, while Mulder weeps, Redux II
*** / ****
Every season, at some point, Mulder or Scully was enduring some personal, health, philosophical, or professional crisis. All were converging for both Mulder and Scully in the fifth season's Redux I & II. Whether it was Mulder trying to reveal who was behind the last four season's worth of lies or the one responsible for shooting a man spying on him. Whether it was Scully dying of a disease given to her without her knowledge, CSM trying to negotiate a working relationship with Mulder in exchange for supposed truths a Dept of Defense employee seemed wrong about (but was all too convincing in his long-winded release of information dating back to the 40s regarding the government and aliens), or Skinner being considered the suspect in Mulder's implication of the man murdered by his gun in his home. Mulder getting access to a supposed cure, granted access by CSM who appears shot by his Syndicate colleagues for knowingly servicing Mulder with the means to pursue the truth he fabricates. If the truth is somewhere in the middle then finding the middle will be a struggle Mulder must wade through conspiracy and lies to discover. The series often hurls curve balls at us like Samantha, brought to Mulder by CSM in a type of peculiar olive branch. But Mulder being confronted by Bill Scully regarding the "little, green men" and giving Dana some dignity in death sure leaves an Ouch. Mulder has withstood quite a lot as a FBI agent on his X-Files crusade, as has Scully. Collapsing at her bedside with his tribunal upcoming, told to implicate Skinner to save himself and begged by Scully to use her as a scapegoat; Mulder has came to quite a crossroads. The miraculous remission thanks to a second implant found in diluded water, provided through CSM's help, and Deputy Chief Blevins revealed as the implicator of Mulder, later to be killed, gave the agents ways out to once again "pursue the truth", wherever that leads. CSM shot and presented as an assassination victim obviously was a rise, but it was a fun diversionary tactic. The Lone Gunmen involved in Mulder's pursuit of a cure for Scully and introduced information about military/government cover-up using aliens and war as attention-grabbing lies fed to the public just add further intrigue, jazzing things up even more.
