Libby and Hurley Go On Their Picnic
I have to credit Lost for their little present to fans of the disregarded potential romance between Hurley and Libby as the Sideways in the sixth season as Everybody Loves Hugo offers what Michael interrupted earlier in the series. Hurley is told by mental hospital patient, Libby, that they have met *somewhere else* and, after a picnic date on the beach and a kiss, the island of the alternate timeline awakens events this version had never experienced. Despite these two timelines featuring similar versions of the main cast, separated by, seemingly, time and space, emerging are gradual ties that somewhat link them, even if the chain is not altogether cohesive. Hurley supporting charities and offering his monetary capabilities in functional ways that contribute to society and economy, as rewards come his way, ultimately this new lady, Libby, gives him something fulfilling that is missing, even if she considers herself crazy. To actually date instead of the inability to so previously thanks to forces working against them was satisfying. I appreciate the gesture.

1_Hurley visiting Libby's grave on the island when Ilana finds him is a nice callback to her loss, as is Michael's return to warn him to stop their plans to blow up the plane with the dynamite. Michael's punishment, despite his efforts to help Jacob, just feels warranted considering the murder of Ana and Libby. But Libby given a chance to bond with Hurley in the Sideways just feels like a gesture of good will for us who were hurt by her premature departure.
