Jessica Jones - Ladies Night / Pilot
Initial thoughts on Jessica Jones is they do tilted angles and urban blight aesthetics quite well. I was asked by work friends to check it out. How could I not really? PI suffering from past traumatic sexual experiences, talks them down by going to street names, whispered into an ease and trickled tears, shaking them off and gulping booze, camera in hand whose lens spies and clicks on bad behavior; Jones is not some cheery, spandex super heroine. She often rolls her eyes, cuts through bullshit by getting to the heart of the matter, and doesn't mince with trivialities. Filthy, stained windowed tenements, with rust, chipped-paint railings are the norm as JJ plies her trade by prowling about, a steady snarl and occasional scoff at the average day's regularities. She opines to herself about the scummy nature that never fails to remind her of what this city features throughout its environs. Plentiful and rich with sin, her job is lucrative. Her strength comes in handy and contributes to the success rate. Ripped, faded jeans and T-shirt, black, leather jacket, finger-cut gloves, and neck-enveloping scarf, JJ dresses as she sees fit, going into swanky corporate buildings and exhaust-pipe smoke alleys; wherever the job carries her, this PI remains the same. Her world is half-empty booze bottles, neon streets, and trash-bag sidewalks. Shooting straight and not pulling punches, JJ buries her pain behind attitude and snark. She's street smart, reads people with near marksman accuracy, eschews bloated conversation, and flees from the potential of tangled web. The web she tries to avoid is weaved by a haunting Boogeyman with English accent and crippling mind control, conducting his game against Jones through a fresh victim from Oklahoma named Hope, a track star whose parents, arriving in search of her, he sends Jessica's way. JJ will have to face her fears in order to stop him. An example of his power is unveiled when Hope murders her parents in cold blood with a loaded gun. Visiting a reporter whose face is all over billboards, JJ gets money for travel, but she'll instead choose to risk danger in order to defeat Kilgrave, the Boogeyman.
