There are the expected October mainstays that have made and always seem to make the cut. That has been Silver Bullet (1985). I don't consider the film all that great, really, but it always appeals to me. Busey as boozing Uncle Red, little Haim as paralyzed Marty, Meagan Follows as annoyed big sister of Haim, Jane, Everett McGill (of Twin Peaks) as the Reverend Werewolf, and Terry O'Quinn as the unfortunate sheriff: cast is on the nose. Busey's amusing wisecracks, Haim's endearing soft hearted kid having to fend off the werewolf when he bottlerockets his eye, Follows looking for the human with a patch over one eye while requesting bottles and cans, Reverend Werewolf in his car trying to run down Marty in his motorized, souped-up Silver Bullet wheelchair, Marty staring at his buddy Brady before Sheriff Haller leaves the park with a bloody kite, and the nightmare of a church full of werewolves coming right at McGill; there are reasons this film doesn't fade into oblivion. Good ole nostalgia, too, serving as an attachment, allowing those of the film's time to return to it like an old friend. This film has its warts and blemishes, no doubt, but Silver Bullet still seems to be not too tough to take.
4th of July 2025 Marathoning
McDowell and Comi prepare to leave for Mars. Aliens visiting the UN, dropping off their cook book, providing goodies for humans on Earth, easing them into trusting them, spiriting them away to be food for them on their home planet. To Serve Man is nearly 60 years ago. I've been watching Twilight Zone since I was a teenager in the mid 90s thanks to Sci Fi Channel. Many of my family have passed since (for instance, my mother's siblings are all about gone except one last sister), and it wouldn't be right to avoid a marathon during the 4th if just for nostalgic reasons. Syfy didn't see the value of TZ on Independence Day, except last year, so even though I cannot watch episodes like I do during New Year's Eve and Day, it is nice to try and sneak in a block of episodes whenever possible. I started with Death Ship from the fourth season, continuing with Stopover in a Quiet Town and The Gift . To Serve Man would feel like a later afternoon watch but SYFY showed it at 3:...
