I was hoping to completely watch Hammer's The Mummy (1959) today, but time didn't permit. It would have been a nice follow up to my Mummy Marathon from yesterday evening, but Saturday was our family's "get out and do anything" day. The family love the Tyler Perry Madea movies (I have only seen one, and that was a Christmas-themed Madea movie last December), so we went and seen Boo 2 (2017) in the theater. It is really a non-story movie with a thin plot about the 18 year old daughter of Perry's Bryan (she is a real hottie so he will have to worry about plenty of college jocks trying to get in her panties) who is more than a little wild, even asking a frat muscled goof to take his clothes off right before the chainsaw, masked "psychos" (reason for the quotes) interrupt them. There's a college Halloween party she attends held at the campgrounds where a series of notorious murders took place (yes, they chose this as their party setting) so Madea, her brother (Bryan's dad), and their two life-long pals hop into the Caddy and head to rescue Bryan's daughter but encounter the chainsaw psychos and two Samara-looking girls with long black hair. This is just an excuse to allow Perry as both Madea and Joe to go for broke with Patricia Lively (as Hattie, easily stealing the film) and Cassi Davis (as Bam). I think there was some serious dubbing over swearing which seems to indicate Perry allowed the film to go before it reached the editing room. I do believe this was reduced from what could have been a R-film to its released PG-13. While I can't say this is a good film by any stretch, it had people in the theater I watched laughing the entire time. Perry basically just put Lively and Davis is aged makeup, as well as himself, and they appeared to have just improvised (especially at the birthday party which goes on for a lot longer than even I was anticipating) a great deal. My favorite scene has Hattie needing to pee, begging Madea to come with her to an outhouse at the party on the notorious campgrounds, encountering the villains resulting in frightened response...the reactions and playing off each other can actually be quite funny if you are willing to just give in. The plot is just really minor. Even the Grim Reaper has a cameo! Yes, the Grim Reaper decides to deflate Madea's tire with its scythe!
4th of July 2025 Marathoning
McDowell and Comi prepare to leave for Mars. Aliens visiting the UN, dropping off their cook book, providing goodies for humans on Earth, easing them into trusting them, spiriting them away to be food for them on their home planet. To Serve Man is nearly 60 years ago. I've been watching Twilight Zone since I was a teenager in the mid 90s thanks to Sci Fi Channel. Many of my family have passed since (for instance, my mother's siblings are all about gone except one last sister), and it wouldn't be right to avoid a marathon during the 4th if just for nostalgic reasons. Syfy didn't see the value of TZ on Independence Day, except last year, so even though I cannot watch episodes like I do during New Year's Eve and Day, it is nice to try and sneak in a block of episodes whenever possible. I started with Death Ship from the fourth season, continuing with Stopover in a Quiet Town and The Gift . To Serve Man would feel like a later afternoon watch but SYFY showed it at 3:...
