Twin Peaks - Love Endures
Big Ed never wavered in his love and adoration for Norma,
despite the agonizing distance of time that separated them from truly being a “couple”.
Their affairs despite the spouses tied to them like nagging attachments, parasitically
feeding off the joy that could exist if they could be together all
official-like could only give them brief visits to paradise instead of space
and time to enjoy it with any real degree of fulfillment. Then can Episode 15
of the Return, when Ed is told by his long unstable wife that he deserves to be
happy and that she could no longer deprive him of that. Ed cannot get to that
diner fast enough, only to be shooed away by Norma while her “business
associate” gets her full attention. The devastation in his face and the defeat
Ed has as he plops down in a chair…it is just like a cold bucket of water
splattered all over you. Then Norma sends that business associate on his way,
not giving in to what he thinks is a proper decision to run her diners as he
thinks she should. Ed contemplates what lies ahead for him and then you see
those soft hands come off screen, caressing his shoulder. Ed turns and there is
his beloved, their faces displaying relief and euphoria. This nirvana cannot be
overstated…it was decades in the making and we as Twin Peaks fans finally got
to see these two given their paradise, not to be a short-lived visit any
longer.
