iZombie - Patriot Brains

I had one chance at love. Turns out my would be soul mate survives on the brains of murdered teenagers.

“Everything’s coming up Blaine”

Army ranger sniper working as an instructor at a paintball hunting game found dead, a distance shot is thought to be the cause of death considering no gunshot residue and where the shell casing is found. The sniper victim’s wife had left him for a computer genius due to his Afghanistan PTSD (that he wouldn’t get help for), with Liv and Babineaux starting there. This paintball course/game was all part of big brother/big sister program, and a “brother” A “UfreightEZ” drone which can fire a weapon while the murderer operates it from the comforts of his home could be the cause. Babineaux seemed to have stumbled on this theory. Liv eats the Army ranger’s brains and gains his military training and marksman skill. She goes on one of those paintball obstacle courses and wins the trophy by taking out all participants. She also deals with his PTSD. Knowing that Blaine continues to kill innocent people for their brains, Liv had broke things off with Lowell and spends the majority of the episode mulling over what to do about him, deciding on killing him. Equipped with the sniper’s eye for execution, Blaine is in her sights as she takes aim…but she can’t do it. Blaine took up Lowell on a visit and Liv planted herself across the street, perched on the roof of another building, the sniper’s gun loaded, the site right on her target. So Lowell decides he will try and Blaine puts him down. Goodbye love interest. You lasted all of about three episodes. Liv not killing him will certainly leave some viewers furious. Because she didn’t kill him, Blaine took her lover’s life and will continue down his dark path which probably includes killing an astronaut for his brains so that a wealthy client can live a dream of “experiencing space”. Yeah. The new case which serves as the story arc’s backdrop is what it is. I can’t say it did much for me, but it allowed Liv to see through the eyes of a soldier and it slightly alters her stance and approach towards people. The “little brother” the soldier had been there for is suspected but his grades were on the rise and he cared about his big brother so that is a red herring. The killer’s reveal is a bit of a “out of left field” development. Major once again encounters Candyman, having to shoot the big lug in order to save himself, calling Babineaux to his home, but missing the body he plugged several bullets into. Major is gradually unearthing the truth…but is he playing with fire?
