Hemlock Grove - In Poor Taste
Christina is having trouble recovering from finding the dead
body of the Willoughby girl, admitting to her friends (the sheriff’s daughters)
that she had thought it was a joke and kissed her lips, believing this to be a
fake. She has nightmares and even has to be taken to the hospital and sedated.
More mature than perhaps high school guys and gals older than her (the sheriff
even tells her when they talk he wonders which is the actual adult in their
conversation), Christina observes and reflects on what she sees. Intellectually
she is superior to many of her peers. But kissing that dead body left a
devastating effect. I’m not sure where the show is taking her, but out of many
of the characters I think she is one of the most interesting.
Roman and Patrick go to Willoughby’s grave to snatch up some
of her guts. They are trying to find the culprit behind the two murders and I
guess “digging up evidence” could help them. Patrick also tells Roman of his
family’s decapitating the heads of their dead relatives/loved ones because not
doing so would be bad. Olivia is
quick to chastise her son for allowing Patrick in her home (the word, filth, was used…) and spots Patrick’s
mom plotting to steal some perfume in a hardware store. Olivia even takes her
daughter to Dr. Pryce as he studies her. It seems he is working to help her
daughter in the future (like her hands) so she funds his research and work at
the lab. Pryce, in that cold, clinical (but just barely, because it is as if
the disdain nearly slips out) manner reacts to Norman coming up in conversation
with Olivia. Patrick goes on and on about his gypsy past to an inquisitive
Roman, and a flashback shows him being the one to wield a sword and cut his
uncle’s head off during his funeral.
As Sheriff Sworn (Aaron Douglas) and Dr. Chasseur continue
to investigate the Willoughby and Brooke murders, Chasseur meets up with Dr.
Norman’s patient, Francis. Francis is the one claiming to see Brooke murdered.
Francis tells Chasseur that the wolf went for Brooke’s “snatch” first. He’s a
curious one, this Francis. Francis has seen a lot but his testimony isn’t
exactly full-proof. Chasseur can’t really take much of what he says to heart
but Norman thinks within his words is some truth.
I like this fascinating new development in the show that is
introduced right at the beginning, but I have no idea where it is going. Letha
is shown sprawled out comfortably on Patrick’s hammock just relaxed. Patrick
arrives to find her, questioning why she’s making herself at home. He grabs an
orange, takes a bite, and offers her some. He draws in close and she seems to
welcome him. She sure doesn’t turn him away. As his hand crawls seductively up
her leg, Letha’s face really enjoying it, she awakens on the school bus (why
would she need to ride the bus anyway?) with the other students just laughing
away. Patrick looks over at her curiously. A little later, Letha and Patrick
join Roman and Shelley on a drive. The sexual tension that hasn’t at all
existed in previous episodes just suddenly becomes awakened on the show. It is
puzzling to me because I can’t recall Letha and Patrick sharing much time on
screen at all. It is certainly sprung on us. Interesting enough, though,
Patrick, in the shotgun seat with Letha tugged close in the middle spot as
Roman drives, reaches and clutches softly Shelley’s hand. So I don’t know what
the fuck to believe.
