Till Death (2021)

"I'm going to cut myself free of you if it's the last thing I do."

Dragging that piece of shit around the place must have been all kinds of suck. Megan Fox having to navigate that scumbag's carcass -- "Is he here?" - Tom. "Most of him." - Emma -- for a good bit, the film actually making that work, kudos to all involved.

I thought the plot was rather clever actually. And it allowed Fox's Emma to think quick in a very difficult situation seemingly against a lot of odds. But, boy, what a nasty piece of work Mark (Macken) was as the husband. He elaborately set Emma up to be killed by the very attacker who put a knife in her back (and for whom she stabbed in the eye with a key!). The gas let out of the vehicle, all the candles and rose pedals after a dinner and blindfold trip to a lake house in winter, complete with seductive sex, only to shoot himself as she awakens, spattering blood and brain in her face. Leaving a recording of her accounts of the attack, mocking her with a recording for her to find in his vehicle. This guy really wanted her to know the affair with Tom (Ameen) was a bonus aggravation. His downfall was imminent anyway since he was only a successful lawyer due to illegality. Too bad Tom got sucked into the whole mess, unable to avoid Bobby's knife, while his worried, nervy brother, Jimmy is brought along to open a safe.

There was a lot of work put into the photography of the film. Lots of different shots, movement, various angles; just a ton of effort put into bringing a style to a rather basic survivalist thriller. And, of course, Fox looks fantastic...even when covered in blood. The creativity in how Fox has to avoid detection is my favorite part of the film. Oh, and the location and season where its set was aces. I had great fun with this. It didn't bore me like other Letterboxd reviewers. Ultimately, despite payment for killing Emma, Bobby really wants diamonds from a safe.

Oh, there is a gnarly head wound Emma often gets an eyeful of. I have to credit the film for the use of a gun that isn't loaded. How handcuffs and a necklace factor into the finale (for Emma and Bobby) I thought was rather cool actually. 3.5/5
