Night's End
Geno Walker is reclusive in a new apartment after a nervous breakdown, alcoholism, and divorce from an ex he's still on good terms with. He was "downsized" from a managerial position, trying to find a niche on (I am guessing) YouTube or some other paying platform for videos (he's trying with a lawn tips related topic). He's into taxidermy, using countdowns for calming technique, living close to an ordered and cyclical life (drinking coffee and eating soup at a certain time, on schedule). Eventually Walker's Ken Barber realizes something paranormal is in the apartment, told by a researcher and spiritualist named Colin (Lawrence Grimm) there was abuse and murder (and a suicide by the murderer) before he arrived to live there. So a "spirit jar" ordered from Colin might have pulled a spirit from some astral plane into reality accidentally by Barber, needing a ritual done with Colin's personal spirit jar in order to "heal" the apartment. Colin's actual motives are far more sinister.
Michael Shannon is notable as the newest husband of Ken's wife, a self-confessed cheeseball while Felonious Monk is Ken's friend. A popular paranormal Youtuber offers a live stream to Ken during Colin's spirit jar ritual, as something far worse that an ax-wielding, white-dressed ghost is conjured and set free to bring apocalyptic doom to humankind.
This really felt like a Pandemic movie with a very minuscule budget. The special effects, such as the "glowing eyes" and flaming fire, really show just how low the production was. I liked Walker's performance, though. I admit that I was feeling the claustrophobia since a majority of the film is in Walker's apartment. The repetition of Walker's life in the film, while his contacts outside are through the internet screen, really start to get to me, I admit. Since I work from home in life, this film reminds me of how important it is to get out of the house! 2.5/5
