iZombie - Bye, Zombies
“The rotting brain of a dead pickpocket…this is the nicest
thing anyone’s ever given me.”
A Mission: Impossible style plot to remove the tainted
Utopium kept in a highly secure facility by Ravi’s pain-in-the-ass former-CDC
scientist colleague, Saxon, who plans to use it as a pharmaceutical drug for “zombiesm”,
profit before curing the zombies in Seattle and ending the entire lockdown and
altering what does appear to be a disastrous outcome (General Mills sent Dolly
Durkins weapons, telling her to kill them all!) is the "case", the brains eaten in this episode meant for the Oceans 11 mission. No murder case to investigate this time. We are beyond that now. This is coming to the end.
I just like Liv and Major's gravedigging scene, complete with kiss where they describe themselves as "zombie exes grave-robbing felon brains". They sure have came
quite far.
There are some really great scenes/moments in this episode.
Clive, Major, and Peyton getting the rundown of the insane
rescue-the-cure-from-the-heavily-guarded-vault-in-Atlanta plan from Ravi and
Liv, Clive giving Liv and Ravi a goodbye hug while holding back tears, Liv and
Major digging up felon brains while going over their past together and the
encouragement between them, Bozzio convincing Clive he needs to be Liv and Ravi’s
“Clooney”, Peyton telling Liv she would probably marry Ravi, Ravi rubbing it in
Blaine’s face that Peyton is in love with him, Ravi (with the brain of a
Russian hacker, complete with accent and love for synthwave music) and Liv (who
is a pickpocket machine, with the linguistics to match) with words while
negotiating profits for stolen jewelry (!!!) while Clive smoothly keeps an
employee of the facility busy (discussing cats and how she could climb him like
a mountain, growling at him quite aggressively) with dancing, Ravi (trying to
commence the operation, stopped by a former date, needing to hack the security
system, doing so easily) and Liv orchestrating the Zone 19 covert ops plan as
Clive serves as the janitor (the guard doesn’t thinks all African-American men
look the same!), with Clive getting down and boogeying to Brickhouse a
priceless gem. The “pfft” animosity between Ravi’s Russian Hacker douchebag and
Liv’s smarmy pickpocketing thief is a treat.
Of course the suspense of the human extremists (led by
Dolly) and zombie extremists (led by Enzo) taking their terrorist missions to
the streets of Seattle puts Major in a near impossible spot: not even his
Filmore-Graves officers stand beside him any longer. Major barely escapes an
Enzo attack and Dolly made sure to open fire on a ceremony where zombies mourn
the loss of their own. Blaine, the sociopathic slimeball that he is, follows
Peyton to the teens, killing one of them for his Freylich brain, doing so while
mocking the former acting-mayor of Seattle, as Don E assists. Blaine, the
prolonging series chief villain, will continue to reach new depths of distaste
and despicability. Seeing Blaine finally get what is coming to him will be so
satisfying.
Ravi, Clive, and Liv pulling one over Saxon, his getting a
call to the facility assuring an open vault, is quite clever, although I do
question the credibility they could actually get away with such a thing. Ravi,
going near full blown angry zombie on Saxon, settles thanks to Liv, who gets
him to realize that they have what they came for. So Atlanta was a success,
ultimately, as we might have expected, while Major, bloodied and under duress (Enzo
is looking for him and he lost command), promises to get some Max Rager in
order for the cure to work.
Meanwhile, Enzo sets zombies on two of Dolly’s Dead-Enders
during a live broadcast, letting those watching know he has the ability to
actually control them, quite a weapon on their side. Enzo tells humans that if
zombies are left alone they will not have to fear…but if they decide to attack
zombies, Filmore-Graves, under “new leadership”, would act with violence.
Dolly, seeing that, declares war. So here we are…the series finale up next. 4/5
