Scream: Resurrection - Ports in the Storm

At the onset of Ports in the Storm, Manny’s funeral leaves Kym scrambling to help his parents with the arrangements, locating a note on flowers from Ghostface. While Manny’s family do things a certain way, Kym disagrees with how he’s dressed and the layout of the funeral. Deion tries to console Kym, letting her know that parents deal with grief in their own way. Liv, in the previous episode burning her arm with a lighter (!!!), is confronted by the gang for stabbing Kym’s tire and being absent at crucial times when Ghostface was on the loose. Liv stabbing the tire sets Kym off, with Manny’s death even blamed on her.

On the card, Ghostface makes it clear the detention club must pick a member to die. That seems to be the next part of Ghostface’s game. It does appear someone will die thanks to Ghostface…did someone text a name or will Ghostface just take it upon himself to kill one of the club? A nice little sequence has Deion in practice, thrown for a loop when Ghostface turns on the scoreboard and draws him to the broadcast booth. Deion and Liv talk about who might have been the one responsible. The conversations at the parents’ donut shop where Amir’s parents work (and Amir) and at the funeral home where Beth lives (and her parents work) continue to drive home the progressing romance. The music and tone try to somberly humanize Beth and hammer home Amir’s affections for her.

Beth talks to Amir about how Liv is the perfect candidate for Ghostface. Juxtaposing her rationale behind that, it plays out with Deion arriving at her window, seduced by him (“lulled into a false sense of security”), and vulnerable for the kill. Deion with a gun, finding a cell phone and receipt, looks for it and Liv confronts him with the weapon in her hand. Amir makes his move on Beth, thinking about how death could come at any time, with the two dancing. Meanwhile Kym goes to her and Manny’s favorite spot to appreciate his memory. “Congratulations Deion. You have been chosen to die” on the phone. White lilies sent to the funeral according to the receipt found in her room. Her father telling Deion that Liv can be a bit unstable…before Ghostface puts a knife into him! And in the cop car, Deion must fend off Ghostface. Left behind in a frame by Ghostface for Liv’s father’s murder, contacting the dispatch office, police are called to the scene of the crime as Deion must flee with the knife. And Amir admitting to Beth that he was the one who texted Deion’s name lands him in the target seat next (“Snitches die!”). The plot thickens and intensifies. And Kym realizes that Manny had a boyfriend…on the football team, the buddy of Deion’s, Hawkins! While Amir possibly going next is no surprise, I had figured Keke Palmer would have been killed off earlier, considering her similar to Posey as more of a celeb guest rather than a key part of the cast and overall slasher story arc. 2.5/5

Collector's Corner: Star Wars

Just a fun little idea. A few keepsakes of the past.

Red Shoe Diaries - Safe Sex

A rainy night in NYC, Joan Severance,  a fashion designer, is offered a ride in a taxi cab by fellow occupant, Stephen Bauer, who flirts with her, even providing his coat to "keep her warm" since her dress was damp and the night cold. Eventually the cab stops at Bauer's apartment complex, and he convinces Severance to come up to his flat. Eventually Bauer is seducing Severance, unable to resist her innermost desires and ready to just take him up on Tuesday and Thursday hookups, agreeing to nothing serious.  But can these "meetups and fuck" with no relationship talks continue or will real feelings and want for something more develop? When Severance's brother dies and she happens to spend the night, Bauer reiterates his displeasure in breaking the arrangement set up by them both. Zalman King's Red Shoe Diaries was, to me, a rather corny exercise in why so serious? softer-than-softcore Showtime Channel "entertainment". Rarely was I ever actuall

Wrapping up the Syfy Twilight Zone Marathon for New Year's Day 2023

So I did watch "King Nine Will Not Return", "The Man in the Bottle", "Nervous Man in a Four Dollar Room" and "A Thing About Machines" during their live run Saturday, December 30, 2023. It was a rare deviation from watching the list of Syfy episodes as they were shown up until past Midnight after January 1st, 2024. I have fooled around with the idea of holding onto the Syfy episode list shown for the New Year's marathon and finishing it up this next weekend. It would be the first time I had recorded the entire Syfy episode marathon on the DVR (for YouTube TV) and watched a majority of it in order from start to finish if I decided to finish it this next weekend. I do admit that once the marathon is over it is like that excitement and nostalgic energy goes away. A little depression sets in actually. Since I was dealt with COVID during Christmas holidays, recovered and returned to myself, the Twilight Zone marathon was a big boost to my morale. S
