Scream: Resurrection - Devil's Night

Devil’s Night opens with Kym in talks with Ghostface, offering plenty of attitude and fuck-you but her friend, Latavious, is left with a sliced throat in her yard. The police arrive as does Deion’s stepbrother, speaking to a frustrated but defiant Kym. Kudos to her for not cowering in fear or hiding away. She’s got plenty of assertiveness to her, that’s for sure. The detention club decide they’ll “take the fight to Ghostface”, “flipping the script”, not waiting to die. Liv investigates Marcus’ death, kept at home by her cop father because of the dangers of “Devil’s Night”. Teen Wolf, the Series’ main star, Tyler Posey, is drug-dealing “Mr. Fade”, Shane, the one who seemingly orchestrated the costume party where Avery Collins was thrown off the balcony. Shane is shown robbing a pharmacy for supplies. The football game needs a QB and coach calls on Deion, unprepared for such a vital new role absent serious practice. So a plot to confront Shane with money to fake buy drugs is underway, as Beth convinces Amir to take his parent’s cash in the safe for the “buy”. Manny will hopefully use his chemistry knowledge in the plot while Kym talks about her death, funeral, and eulogy. Tyga is the stepbrother of Deion, Jamal, trying to figure out their relationship, sharing the same father but different mothers.

Deion is confronted by Liv about the possibility of Ghostface being his twin, Marcus. Marcus’ body was never found. The case cold, Marcus was declared missing. And this thread is a lingering focal point. As if the writer’s room refuses not to emphasize this repeatedly. With Liv’s cop dad keeping tabs on her, being out with Deion after a student died at a party doesn’t go over well.

Regarding Shane, after a gas is used by the detention club to subdue him, questions to him by them doesn’t go according to plan. Shane was texted by Ghostface just like they were, in the school confronting the drug dealer about the party, the masks, and the death. He seems to be in the same trouble as they are. Ghostface, across the intercom, tells them he is around, initiating Kym to go oh-hell-no, refusing to stick around. Of course the doors are locked, Manny is needing his asthma inhaler, and Kym’s no-fear front is starting to weaken. Amir and Beth decide to hide in a storage closet.

Slash is now in session.

Shane, gun in hand, with Ghostface on the floor after knocking him down, has the advantage, as Kym encourages him to shoot. Shane doesn’t!!! Shane just can’t shoot him and Ghostface runs off after unlocking the gate that had Kym pinned down. This was inexplicable: Shane watches Ghostface just run off! Beth wants to stay with Amir (they almost kiss, as Beth is the assertive one) after Shane waving his gun with fake courage and bravado can’t stir up any interest. Beth and Amir continue to flirt, the goth and geek. Pop music going hard, Amir decides they should be friends and Beth plays it off as if it was no biggie. Manny and Kym go back to they funeral conversation. And after being warned from pops, Deion still returns to Liv, both apologizing to each other (the father mess and Marcus investigation). And it is revealed that Shane robbed the pharmacy for cancer drugs for his sick mom.

Tyler Posey, from Teen Wolf, was indeed in this longer than I anticipated. He was more or less a guest star, considering his association with MTV before. The hypodermic, filled with juice, to the eye while pinned down under a building roof ladder is quite the nasty exit. 2.5/5

Collector's Corner: Star Wars

Just a fun little idea. A few keepsakes of the past.

Red Shoe Diaries - Safe Sex

A rainy night in NYC, Joan Severance,  a fashion designer, is offered a ride in a taxi cab by fellow occupant, Stephen Bauer, who flirts with her, even providing his coat to "keep her warm" since her dress was damp and the night cold. Eventually the cab stops at Bauer's apartment complex, and he convinces Severance to come up to his flat. Eventually Bauer is seducing Severance, unable to resist her innermost desires and ready to just take him up on Tuesday and Thursday hookups, agreeing to nothing serious.  But can these "meetups and fuck" with no relationship talks continue or will real feelings and want for something more develop? When Severance's brother dies and she happens to spend the night, Bauer reiterates his displeasure in breaking the arrangement set up by them both. Zalman King's Red Shoe Diaries was, to me, a rather corny exercise in why so serious? softer-than-softcore Showtime Channel "entertainment". Rarely was I ever actuall

Wrapping up the Syfy Twilight Zone Marathon for New Year's Day 2023

So I did watch "King Nine Will Not Return", "The Man in the Bottle", "Nervous Man in a Four Dollar Room" and "A Thing About Machines" during their live run Saturday, December 30, 2023. It was a rare deviation from watching the list of Syfy episodes as they were shown up until past Midnight after January 1st, 2024. I have fooled around with the idea of holding onto the Syfy episode list shown for the New Year's marathon and finishing it up this next weekend. It would be the first time I had recorded the entire Syfy episode marathon on the DVR (for YouTube TV) and watched a majority of it in order from start to finish if I decided to finish it this next weekend. I do admit that once the marathon is over it is like that excitement and nostalgic energy goes away. A little depression sets in actually. Since I was dealt with COVID during Christmas holidays, recovered and returned to myself, the Twilight Zone marathon was a big boost to my morale. S
