The Eye (2008)

I think with all who write this or that over a longer period of time you have your films that you come across that sort of stagnate you into indifference where giving much creative energy to them almost seems laborious. There's obvious talent in front of and behind the camera yet you know all involved were more or less committed to the project out of a need to pay the bills and keep food on the table. I felt that way about The Eye (2008) with Jessica Alba. God, she's an attractive woman. There's no disputing that or downgrading it. Even if it is glaringly obviously she's not entirely invested in the role, Hollywood knows she's certainly a beauty who can at least provide a pleasant diversion from the banal lack of inspiration in the development of the plot. Blind and receiving sight thanks to the death of her new eye's former owner, Alba sees through her and into the future. She sees someone else's face even. Her doc tries to convince her it is all shock but she eventually gets him over to her side. There is an emphasis on hallucinatory visions of the dead...cue the joke that she sees dead people. Parker Posey has rarely been used so boringly. She's Alba's concerned sis. There is the blurry and soft vision through her perspective so we can understand this awkward process she must endure. Eventually she has her doc take her to Mexico after encouraging him to look up the records on whose eyes she has.
