Dolph Could Still Show the World...just not in WWE
Speaking of a wrestler that is in need of a change of
scenery or at the very least deserved of a chance to escape the WWE stench
reeking from his career, Dolph Ziggler perhaps should follow the road traveled
by Cody Rhodes and take off for the independent scene when possible. A couple
years ago, when Triple H was the WWE World Heavyweight Champion coming out of
the Royal Rumble, he was challenged by Dolph Ziggler on Raw. And Ziggler
clearly, even though he had to put an aging HHH over, was a step or two ahead
of the champion. While HHH was sucking wind and slugging it out just to get
through a match with Ziggler, Dolph was exciting to watch as he had the chance
to go a lengthy round with WWE’s upper echelon. But no one in that arena, no
matter how they gasped as supposed near falls, expected that belt to change
wastes. Over the years he has bounced around for everybody. Who could Ziggler
get over? Apollo Cruz and Kalisto. He has one of his best matches against The
Miz (who was going through a career renaissance), winning the Intercontinental
title. Afterward he barely did anything with the title as those behind
Smackdown Live creative failed to capitalize on his big win. Miz regained it
and Ziggler went through the usual descent into mediocrity. While it would mean
he’d forsake the mass television exposure WWE affords him, Dolph might
experience the same kind of rejuvenation in spirit and satisfaction as Cody, if
he’s willing to be a journeyman, going where the bookings request. The talents
out there certainly could benefit by working with someone exceptional in the
ring as Ziggler and he might have a little bit of persuasion in how he’s
booked. Ziggler’s put in the miles and earned the right to have somewhat of a
say in how he’s being treated. Ziggler’s brand could resurge, perhaps offer
audiences the chance to see him less tarnished, and maybe escape from the
faltering creative stain WWE has smeared him with for far too long. How many
more up and comers must Ziggler put over? How much spit, polish, and shine must
Ziggler apply to his work to get greener and lesser talented folks over? He’s
paid his dues. Maybe it is time for Ziggler to have a say in how wrestling
audiences consider him…a wrestler with all the tools to sponge away the decay
that currently rots his career.
He's been a champion, though. The Intercontinental and US chanpionships, brief tastes of World Heavyweight Championship gold. He's been around long enough to have won the Money in the Bank. He's done a few things in the WWE. But will he be remembered for accomplishments when WWE has been certain to make sure they were so short-lived? What's next for him? Maybe a post-WWE career could be just what he needs.
