4th of July and The Twilight Zone Holiday Marathon

McNear and Greer thinks Devine is full of it.

It was an interesting thought on the Twilight Zone forum of MovieChat where a fan commented in rather disappointment in Syfy kicking off the marathon last night with "Hocus Pocus and Frisby". Andy Devine spinning yarns about his great contributions to and in history to exasperated customers who visit his general store and gas station. Aliens believe he's a great human specimen to carry with them for study! I find the episode endlessly amusing thanks to Devine and fun characters in it, but I guess there is this idea that Syfy would put more thought in just the right episode to begin the marathon. I instead felt that Syfy just packaged together some episodes and plopped them into a marathon. There is the nostalgic factor of the TZ holiday marathons themselves and how they take those of us loyal to them back to all the times past we catered to them. Cut with awkward commercials so intruding during the most inopportune times, many have mentioned on forums that they follow the marathon as background and communicate with fellow fans about what they like or dislike about them and just the channel's own mishandling of the show. We talk of the past, what the show means to us, its themes, and its impact. I guess those devoted to the show (and I call myself one of those) feel as if you are kicking off the show then perhaps an episode of great standing should be the specific introduction. I don't think that is the case at all for Syfy. They have the show and only show it during early morning hours when people are asleep or are getting up for work. The marathon is the last vestige of what was once The Sci-Fi Channel. Small reminder that the channel offered science fiction from years past, The Twilight Zone is the last holdover. I do often wonder just how long the show has with the channel before it is too abandoned. But that is okay because I have my set and can watch them. There are other places that are open to fans. While Syfy hawks its wares and splatters its advertising content all over the show, I and others like me know there are places to see it unaltered and in full form. MeTv or Hulu or in sets, Syfy isn't the only joint in town that shows it or offers it. Again, this marathon is an excuse for TZ fans to have the show on and communicate. I do wish we still had our TZ IMDb message board but that is a cry in the wilderness heard by no one willing to listen to those who care about sharing.
