I was wondering to myself just how I could truly put into words what Amer means to me or describe it in terms that would do it justice. I guess I could just describe what overpowers me. Exercise in style might be one way to describe it. This won't be to everybody's taste. Some will probably consider it an exercise in pretention. I think another title for Amer could be "Close-Up" because this film lives and dies on the close-up shot. Whatever the case, I can only hope in the coming week, I can even offer a half-decent accumulation of emotions and feelings about the film and how it impressed me. Should be fun, though. I have watched this only once, but I was sampling the opening again tonight and anticipate the second viewing experience. I am stoked about Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani's The Strange Color of Your Body's Tears, although I'm waiting to get my hands on a copy of it somehow when it becomes available.
